BioThis is my life, this is my work. I am a nurse. While I can care deeply for my patient's progress and health, I am also a human. I find the dirty-nurse stereotype laughable, and the Nightingale-Nurse image outdated. Some of my patients make me laugh, both at them and with them. Some of my patients make me angry, both for them and at them. Sometimes my coworkers make me want to scream and sometimes my coworkers are the only people that understand my day.
I come from a family of nurses. My mother is a nurse, my grandfather was a labour relations arbritator for a nurse's union. My mother-in-law is a nurse. One of my best friends is a nurse. I grew up around nurses and the local hospital. It's no wonder I became a nurse, it's just a wonder it took so long.
As a 'novice nurse' looking to reflect on some of the experiences I have had through my so-far brief career, I've decided it's time to separate those nursing experiences into a different journal. If you read this journal, expect laughter, tears and sometimes anger, both from me and from you. I'm not WonderWoman, I'm just NursePickles.
